Medal of Honor: Frontline

Currently the second-to-newest game in the MOH saga, with Rising Sun being the newest (a review on RS is forthcoming). Frontline is a first-person shooter with levels covering everything from the D-Day invasion of 1942 to espionage missions where you infiltrate enemy submarines, bases, and supply depots. Everything about this game is quality; I originally bought it because it was on sale for $15, but I found it to be extremely enjoyable.

The controls are a bit difficult to get used to, but once you get them down you’ll find yourself waiting anxiously for the next baddie to appear so you can blow his brains out. Whether you’re sniping German troops from a hundred yards or pumping some guy full of lead from five feet away, it’s a hair-raising, action-packed good time. Missions are unique enough to keep you entertained; you seldom feel like you’re doing the same thing twice.

There are several different weapons you can pick up throughout the game. Although perhaps not as many in number as some other shooters out there, each weapon’s behavior is stunningly realistic. From the reliable, American-made Thompson to the haphazard, German-engineered MP40, each gun has its own persona. I highly recommend this game, which I would have given a perfect score except that the replay value isn’t that great. Even with multiple difficulty levels, once you’ve completed one of the especially lengthy missions, there’s nothing that makes you want to do it all over again.
